“I felt called back to music from the DJ community,” Furtado said in a statement about “Love Bites”
Go ‘head now! Nelly Furtado knew a return to dance music was the way to go, and tapped SG Lewis and Tove Lo to help her pen and produce “Love Bites,” her new single, out Wednesday.
“I felt called back to music from the DJ community,” said Furtado in a press release. “DJs were remixing my songs at concerts, clubs, and on social media, and I realized how much people like to dance and escape to my music.”
“It’s the healthiest vice you can have, and I love the opportunity to write music that lets people escape more than anything,” she added.
The visualizer for “Love Bites” captures Furtado and Lo dancing to the song’s lyrics as if they’re in the club. In other scenes, the duo pose atop a red car driven by Lewis. “You got the devil in your eyes so I’m/Not going to waste all of my time on you,” sings Furtado on the track.
The artist trio has been teasing the release of “Love Bites” for several weeks now on social media, sharing snippets of the catchy track. The track seems to be the taste of some of the music the Canadian Grammy winner has been teeing up for the last several months.
The track follows her Spanish track with Juanes, “Gala y Dalí,” and her Timbaland-Justin Timberlake collab, “Keep Going Up.” Her last album arrived in 2017 with The Ride.
The song is also the first new release from Lo since releasing the Extended Cut of her album, Dirt Femme, last year. The LP included songs such as “No One Dies From Love,” “Borderline,” and “Pineapple Slice” with SG Lewis.
“We just really click. I just love writing with him,” Lo told Rolling Stone about working with Lewis ahead of Dirt Femme‘s release.
