Watch Wallows Cover Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Espresso’ for SiriusXM

The band stopped by SiriusXM’s Alt Nation to perform an acoustic rendition of the pop single and selections from their upcoming album Model, out May 24

Sometimes, in life, certain people can’t help but be working late because they’re singers. And sometimes, on very rare occasions, their give a fucks go on vacation, and they have no choice but to Mountain Dew it for you. All three of these things happened to Wallows when they stopped by SiriusXM’s Alt Nation to perform an acoustic version of Sabrina Carpenter‘s caffeinated pop hit “Espresso.”

But Wallows’ take on “Espresso” wasn’t a straightforward cover. Toward the end of the song, the band — made up of Dylan Minnette, Braeden Lemasters, and Cole Prestonalso — shifted gears and placed a verse from New Order’s “Age of Consent” into the final chorus, singing: “And I’m not the kind that likes to tell you/Just what you want me to/You’re not the kind that needs to tell me/That’s that me espresso.”

During their appearance, the band also performed music from their forthcoming third studio album, Model, out May 24. “We want this to be the most approachable album we’ve made. I want people to put this on if they’re not really a fan of us, and be gripped immediately,” Minnette told Rolling Stone earlier this year. “We don’t want to take too much of their attention, but we want to keep it. We keep them the whole time and make them want to come back.”

He added: “We let go of these pressures of what all the powers that be around us want from us and just ended up focusing on what we do and what we wanted, and it resulted in an album that very much came us. It’s the most fresh we’ve been.”
